AIRPLANE
ENGINE,
WORKING PRINCIPAL.
The application
of Newton’s third
law of motion,
is the working
principal of airplane
engine.
The propulsive
force of airplane (force which
moves airplane forward)
is achieved by
displacement of air
in the opposite
direction of its (airplane) movement.
Airplane engine
produces this propulsive
force are also
called heat engine.
Heat engine convert the
heat energy into
mechanical energy.
The airplane which
are fitted with
turbojet engine, uses
fuel and air
mixture as engine
working fluid and propulsive
working fluid. Airplane moves
on air by
propulsive force.
In case
of turboprop or
propeller driven jet
engine (also piston
engine), they uses fuel
and air mixture
as engine working
fluid and ambient
air (surrounding air of airplane)
as propulsive working fluid. A very
large quantity of
air is moved
by propeller, but
its velocity change
is little, and
airplane remain on
air and continue
flying.
In turbojet
engine a small quantity
of
air passes through
engine, mixes with
fuel , combination is
called engine working
fluid and releases from
engine tail with
large velocity change,
thus airplane remain
in air and
continue flying.
So in propeller
driven airplane, it is the mass
of air, driven by propeller,
and in pure
jet engine it is the high
velocity of engine tail
air, keeps
airplane on flight ,
which is basically
Newton’s third
law of motion.
